STUDENT LEGAL SERVICES
What is the $40 SLS fee?
Beginning autumn quarter 2011, students at the Columbus campus who are enrolled in a degree granting program will be assessed a $40 annual fee for use of Student Legal Services (SLS). Staffed by attorneys and legal personnel, the SLS provides the following legal services to Ohio State students: court representation, advising sessions, informational brochures, sample documents, and a variety of educational programs.
Students can decline the SLS plan and have the fee waived each year by completing the opt-out waiver on the Finances page of the Student Center, available via buckeyelink.osu.edu, after bills are available until the fee payment deadline of their first term of enrollment. Students who opt out cannot enroll in the plan until the next academic year.
Note: SLS plan coverage is from August 1 to July 31 of each academic year. Students who enroll after autumn quarter will be assessed a prorated fee as follows:
- $23 if first enrolled in winter
- $14 if first enrolled in spring
- Law students are assessed $40 if enrolled for autumn, $23 if enrolled for winter/spring and $6 for summer only
