What is Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)?
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) denotes a student’s successful completion of course work toward a certificate or degree program. Regulations require that all students who receive the benefit of federal student financial aid must maintain SAP.
Components of the SAP policy:
- Required cumulative GPA
- Required percentage of hours to complete annually
- A maximum time frame for completion of degree requirements
For details, go to the SAP overview.
How do I appeal SAP?
If you do not meet requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), you may appeal the cancellation of your financial aid.
To file an appeal:
Forms are also available from the Student Service Center and regional campus financial aid offices.
Appeal forms must be submitted with supporting documentation of the mitigating or extenuating circumstances that negatively impacted the student’s ability to make SAP. You must complete the “academic timeline” portion of the form with your academic advisor or college dean.
Complete appeals are reviewed within two weeks of submission and students are notified accordingly. Students who have their appeals granted are reinstated for financial aid eligibility in a probationary status for the next award year. Students who have their appeals denied remain ineligible for assistance until such time as they are meeting SAP requirements.
